AIROTEC Case Study: First Remote AIROTEC® AWOS Software Installation at Nong Khang Airport, Laos

This project marked an important milestone for AIROTEC® – the first fully remote installation of AIROTEC AWOS software, carried out more than 8,500 km away from our headquarters in Warsaw, Poland, at Nong Khang Airport.

The AIROTEC AWOS was installed, configured, and integrated remotely into the existing airport infrastructure, without deploying engineers on site. The project covered complete software installation, configuration, integration with existing sensors and systems, and system commissioning within the live airport environment.

Despite the geographical distance, we were able to:

  • prepare and execute the entire investment within just one month,

  • integrate the AWOS software with the airport’s existing infrastructure,

  • significantly shorten the path to operational readiness.

This rapid implementation enabled Nong Khang Airport to reach operational readiness in a very short timeframe, supporting the safe start of flight operations and the availability of reliable meteorological data.

The project was also a valuable operational experience for the AIROTEC team, particularly due to the significant time zone difference between Warsaw and Laos. Close coordination, flexible working hours, and efficient communication with local airport personnel were key to the project’s success.

The installed AIROTEC AWOS meets ICAO and WMO operational readiness requirements, ensuring compliance with international aviation and meteorological standards and providing accurate, dependable weather information for airport operations.

This case study demonstrates that AIROTEC AWOS can be successfully deployed remotely, even on existing infrastructure and in challenging logistical conditions, allowing airports worldwide to achieve operational readiness quickly, efficiently, and reliably.
